Tanya Harris of Lemon Grove has fought to make San Miguel Avenue safer after her 13‑year‑old son, Trevon Harris, was struck and killed while crossing the street in May 2019. Witnesses told investigators Trevon slipped or fell into the roadway. Since his death, Harris has pushed the City of Lemon Grove to add safety measures, attending council meetings and filing a lawsuit. She says the city has still not taken action to prevent another tragedy, even with the lawsuit pending.
